Public lice can affect men and women; they are caught through skin to skin contact and sexual activity. To prevent transmission it is best to avoid personal contact with someone who has pubic lice, and ensure that bed linen, clothing and towels are washed well in order to prevent re-infection.
Symptoms include itching and irritation and can be treated with over the counter shampoos or solutions, usually left on overnight and rinsed off in the morning.
